This process includes a thorough review of available system documentation, including SAP-generated system sizing, use, and simplification reports for the legacy SAP software platform.

After the Roadmap is complete, the Explore and Realize Phases implement the migration and modernization strategies for SAP workloads by deploying SAP landscapes or rapidly migrate existing systems to reduce costs and improve security and reliability. Given the complexity of the task and the challenges that must be addressed on the way, and in advance of beginning the actual technical migration work, Clients should implement several preparatory initiatives that will determine paths forward on known solution design and development decision points for the future end state. These include:

• Prepare for User Experience in Fiori and UI Customizations. Given the experience in how Clients are leveraging the SAP Portal and SAP UI components today, Clients should:
  • Develop the new user experience, branding, and help strategy
  • Document what type of in-application help is desired per screen and user type
  • Begin evaluating the existing Fiori business applications and screens for completeness
• Prepare for custom code updates
• Develop an analytics strategy
• Start working through role management and SAP governance, risk, and compliance (GRC)
• Perform electronic data interchange solutions modernization and consolidation if necessary
• Prepare the existing SAP solution manager instance to support the S/4HANA project deployment and sustainment
• Develop a future S/4HANA roadmap that leverages capabilities of the modernized SAP system not deployed in the initial migration
