Thorben Consulting, LLC is seeking a talented Full-Stack Engineer – AI/ML Applications to help shape the future of human-in-the-loop experiences within a cutting-edge GenAI Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) platform. This role offers the opportunity to build highly impactful, AI-powered solutions by owning the complete user experience—from intuitive React/Next.js interfaces to the backend API/BFF services that bring those experiences to life.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of end-to-end product capabilities, creating seamless vertical slices that connect front-end components, real-time Server-Sent Events (SSE) pipelines, and backend services. You will design and enhance critical platform features, including persistent chat experiences, intelligent notification frameworks, tool-call interactions, artifact visualization, document classification workflows, and advanced trace exploration.

The successful candidate will bring strong full-stack expertise, a passion for exceptional user experiences, and the ability to transform complex AI capabilities into intuitive, reliable, and production-ready applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build highly impactful, AI-powered solutions by owning the complete user experience from intuitive React/Next.js interfaces to backend API/BFF services
  • Take ownership of end-to-end product capabilities, creating seamless vertical slices that connect front-end components, real-time Server-Sent Events (SSE) pipelines, and backend services
  • Design and enhance critical platform features including persistent chat experiences, intelligent notification frameworks, tool-call interactions, artifact visualization, document classification workflows, and advanced trace exploration
  • Lead the development of intuitive user experiences for document ingestion, classification review, field extraction validation, and user acceptance testing dashboards
  • Enable users to efficiently interact with and validate AI-driven document processing workflows
  • Integrate with customer identity providers, observability and monitoring platforms, and CI/CD deployment pipelines
  • Run an engineering practice driven by evaluation, testing, and verification — changes are proven with tests, traces, and metrics before they are called done
  • Operate agentic systems fluently (MCP tools, Bedrock/LLM calls, streaming, distributed traces) in support of GenAI IDP document classification and field extraction workflows
  • Work within DCSA classified environments (IL5/IL6) following DoD security baselines and STIG compliance requirements
  • Support the GenAI IDP solution including prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, and evaluation logic for document section classification and extracted field validation

Qualifications

Required

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Active Top Secret security clearance (must already possess at time of hire)
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Experience building production web applications with TypeScript and a modern React framework (React/Next.js)
  • Experience building and operating backend services or APIs (e.g., FastAPI, Node) that a frontend consumes
  • Experience with real-time or streaming interfaces (Server-Sent Events, WebSockets, or equivalent), including handling reconnection and out-of-order events
  • Experience with automated testing at the unit and end-to-end level (e.g., Jest, Playwright) as part of the definition of done
  • Experience diagnosing defects across the stack — from a client-side symptom to the backend route or payload that caused it — using logs and traces as evidence
  • Active DoD TOP SECRET clearance or eligibility to obtain one
  • Current, active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph
  • Current, active Security+ or equivalent certificate for privileged user access

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience building interfaces for AI/agentic or other long-running, streaming systems (token-by-token output, tool-call visualization, document classification result rendering, run/trace inspection)
  • Experience with GenAI/LLM integration including prompt engineering workflows, model evaluation dashboards, and fine-tuning pipeline UIs
  • Experience deploying applications in AWS GovCloud or classified (IL5/IL6) environments
  • Experience integrating with DoD identity providers and CAC/PIV authentication
  • Experience with client and server state management and optimistic-update patterns
  • Proficiency using AI coding assistants as a daily driver, with the judgment to verify their output against tests and traces before merging
  • Experience with distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry) from the application side
  • Experience with AWS services including Amazon Bedrock, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, and CDK
  • Associate-level or higher AWS certification
