Thorben Consulting LLC is actively seeking an experienced SAP ABAP/Fiori Developer with a strong background in Student Lifecycle Management (SLcM) to join our team and contribute to a Student Management System implementation for a U.S. government Higher Education client. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking professional to help modernize the federal organization's SAP landscape by replacing legacy transactions with responsive, self-service Fiori experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
As an integral part of the team, you will be responsible for designing and developing business applications focused on delivering exceptional user experiences. You'll leverage ABAP for backend logic and SAP Fiori for crafting intuitive, user-friendly interfaces supporting SLcM processes such as admissions, enrollment, transcripts, advising, and academic scheduling. Experience with technologies such as SAPUI5 and Fiori Elements is essential as you work to ensure seamless functionality and efficient performance within SAP environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robust Fiori/SAPUI5 applications using SAP ABAP to meet SLcM business requirements
- Use ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) to implement business logic and data processing behind SLcM Fiori applications
- Work with Core Data Services (CDS), the OData protocol, and ABAP-based application services to expose student lifecycle data to Fiori apps
- Develop various types of Fiori applications, including transactional, search, analytics, and planning apps, for SLcM processes
- Leverage Fiori Elements to automate UI creation using annotations, reducing the need for extensive custom SAPUI5 coding
- Configure and manage the SAP Fiori Launchpad, including catalogs, roles, tiles, and role-based access
- Partner with functional SLcM consultants to translate student lifecycle requirements into technical designs
- Support unit, integration, and user acceptance testing, along with cutover and post-go-live technical support
- Ensure development follows DoD/DoW security, compliance, and change management standards
Qualifications
Required
- Candidate must be a US Citizen
- Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development and SAP Fiori for frontend interface development
- Strong understanding of ABAP syntax, data structures, and object-oriented programming principles
- Knowledge of SAP Fiori design principles, UI5 framework, and Fiori Elements
- Understanding of the OData protocol and its role in data exchange between backend and frontend
- Familiarity with CDS for defining data models and knowledge of SAP S/4HANA architecture and its features
- Understanding of RAP (RESTful Application Programming Model) for building RESTful services
- Knowledge of BTP for developing and deploying SAP applications
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
Preferred
- SAP BTP Build (SAP Build Apps, Build Process Automation, or Build Code) experience
- SAP Joule (SAP's generative AI copilot) experience or exposure to embedding AI-assisted capabilities into SAP applications
- Prior experience on a SAP Higher Education / Student Lifecycle Management (SLcM) project
- Prior experience with NTT Data SIS SLcM add-on
- Prior experience on DoD, DoW, or other state/federal SAP implementation
- Certifications in SAP Development
- Familiarity with the SAP Business Application Studio (BAS) development environment
- Knowledge of additional languages such as SQL, Java, or Python
